Colville, WA

So Joe got a call saying a sergeant's position was open for him in... Colville, a 6 hour drive from our house. Go I-90 east until Spokane and then go North for an hour. Joe has 5 business days to make a decision. Everyone in the WSP is telling him to take it. There is so much more to it than just taking the job. Right now Joe works 4 tens, this new job is 5 eights and then 6 hours worth of driving to and from would really mean he would be gone 6 days a week. If he is gone 6 days a week how can Laura work two days a week? Either she will have to find childcare or take a leave of absence from work. If she takes a leave beyond maternity leave from work they will hold her job but not necessarily her exact position meaning she'd like resume in a night shift spot.

Joe can only do one transfer in his first probationary year as a sergeant besides the original assignment. Joe knows that once he takes a sergeant position that just means the sooner he can put his name on a transfer list. The next few guys #2 & #3 are from Tacoma so in theory if he passes on Colville and one of them takes the spot that just means there is another person ahead of him on the transfer list.

What to do?

So many what ifs.
