"Mom, I have a ..."

On the way home from my Mom's group at church tonight Elise was riding shotgun in the car.

We have some interesting conversations her and I.

"Mom, I have a calorie. What's a calorie?"

No people that word did not come from me, I have never said the word calorie around her.

Gosh, how do you explain a calorie to a 5 yr old?

"A calorie is a unit of energy that a certain food has. Celery doesn't have much calories because it came from the earth, but hamburgers and french fries have a lot of calories. When your body moves and works out it uses energy and uses up the calories."

Probably way over her head. Oh well it's a start. Take home message: fruits and vegetables are better to eat than processed foods. We can all agree on that.
