Slubs

Last night Elise went through a rite of passage with Laura. She was allowed to go out, after dark and look for slugs with a flashlight. Better yet, she got to sprinkle salt on them.

In her sweetest voice she declared, "Look mommy, he likes it."

"No, Elise. He doesn't like it. Mommy doesn't like that the slugs (pronounced slubs) eat her plants and so we salt them. No, he doesn't like it. The salt hurts him."

Later, "He don't like it. Slub don't like it. Let's look for big slubs mommy." And just like that we were off, into the night, hunting for more Slubs.
