At the starting gate
Running fools.
Home stretch, Derry in the zone.
And while we were racing, here's Russell keeping warm under that hat.
The finish.
Uncle Derry and Russell.
Russell is proud of mom too!!
Laura, Russell, Derry, Shelley and Riley the dog went to Miller Sylvania State Park for the long awaited duathalon. We were told 45 degrees with a 30% chance of rain, it literally began raining as we pulled out of the parking spot. Shelley and Russell got a chance to loop around the park and take Riley for a walk. Shelley was also the photographer and caught us in the move. The two goals Laura and Derry had were 1.)No stopping during the run and 2.) Don't be last. It was a mile run, 11.5 mile bike ride (with rolling hills) and then a final mile run. We hoped to do this somewhere between 1:20-1:30 minutes we finished in the 1:11-1:12 range and were pleased with the results. Things to consider for the next time: do not drink a mocha 2 hours before the race, always have a goal and try to reach it (mine was the Lady in Fuchsia {not hot pink, not magenta but fuchsia} and I realized we all have a Lady in Fuchsia they just might not be wearing fuchsia (sadly I did not catch her), switch out bike tires the more narrow and bigger circumference tire will improve cadence (that's bike lingo, I've been hanging around Tom lately) and have some good tunes in the ears Derry's shuffle stayed on one song and Laura tried singing to herself but its not the same. Before we were in the car for even 20 minutes Derry said, "Next time..." We may sign up for another one before long. Strong work, strong work indeed.

Wow! Good for you, next time I want to see Joe out there too :)
Joe was planning on being there this time but still had the lingerings of a cold and didn't want to blow the whole thing open again. Next time he's in!!
Good for Laura! It's a great accomplishment to complete something like this!
