Who ever wrote the song "White Christmas" never experienced nearly two weeks of snow in a town not prepared to deal with it. Let's just say after days of parking up top, and multiple tries to leave our road, Joe and Laura are happy to see the rain come to warm things up.
On the 23rd we went to Mike and Jen's where the rest of the family later gathered and stayed the night. We mean everyone: Uncle Derry, Aunt Shelley, Megan, Rhoni, Bama, Papa Ron and even Ollie(black lab) and Riley (schitzoo? cacapoo? some cute furry 30# dog with a poofy tail) came to play with Abby(springer spaniel). It was house full of kids: 5 under 14 years old, 3 pooches and a whole lot of borden bars. Christmas Eve we started the day with cinnamon rolls and snow balls. We had breakfast and immediately went outside and played in the snow. The women folk prepared an early dinner in which we gorged ourselves again and then opened presents. Highlights included the art easel which entertained both girls and the photo books of M, R, Derry & Shelley's Glacier trip. Lowlights: putting together a baby stroller- note to self when the time comes to buy a bike pay the extra $20 to have it assembled!! Much later Derry and Shelley left before the snow began to fall but Joe and Laura left in the thick of it and was later told 4" came down by morning.
Christmas Day Joe and the kids went to his Aunt and Uncle's in Seattle where many a side streets still were blocked off due to the slush. Bama and Papa Tom were there too as were Uncle Chris and Aunt Molly (complete with 2nd trimester belly AKA baby girl Zimmer), Lindsey (also with belly AKA baby girl Woods), Jimmy and cousin Noah (so glad Elise grew out of saying Nona). Hope to catch up with Grant and Melissa before the Camano Days come. Laura joined up with the fam after she got off work.
The 26th it was a mini Zimmer-Lyons Christmas. Both Bamas and Papas and of course Megan ("May-gee") and Rhoni came over.
What a fun filled week! Too bad this only happens once a year. Laura was a bit more relaxed and decided that there was only so much sewing, baking, shopping a girl could handle and actually allowed herself to lighten up a bit- Revolutionary indeed. The result a less stressed more blessed Laura. Perhaps that will become tradition, hmm.
