We met with Dr. Boseley today. He was very nice, his wife with a Mary Bridge RN employee badge and their 3 children were in the waiting room ("When are we going to leave?" "We'll go to lunch when Daddy is done seeing his patients.") He said this is very unusual, I haven't seen this before. Pregnant pause... he laughed and then said that is probably something that you do not want to hear from your doctor.
First off he said the cyst is likely fluid filled or it could be a plugged salivary gland. We have two options: either do nothing and wait until it bothers him or have him slice most of it off (there is a chance it may return). He can't remove it because it is in the part of the palate which helps with speech, he said if he did remove it it would defiantly effect his speech so that is not an option. We are going to get it sliced tentatively schedule for August 19th. It is a 5-10 min surgery (he'll slate an hour in case it gets complicated) and he told us Russell will he held overnight, unless he is able to eat and drink well soon after the surgery. In any case we'll prepare for an overnight and be excited if we are allowed to come home earlier than that.
Why can't he just remove it? Because the muscles and other tissues that help with consenants are in that same location. So the plan is to get rid of most of it without interfering with non-cyst matter and let it heal naturally. It will be an open sore for what I am guessing 7-10 days. The doctor said he'll have a sore throat,
Why not wait? It is bugging Russell now. He is gagging himself several times a day some days successfully purging a bit too. We believe he is attempting to scratch the cyst.
We are praying that we are making the right decision and God will throw us an obvious sign!
